What is DANAB?

Challenges on water issue are expanding increasingly in many parts of the world and it has become one of the most basic obstacles to development and even surviving. This situation leads to global and local efforts by experts, national authorities and international agencies to find new and innovative solutions for sustainable management of water resources.

One of the most important parts of these solutions is public awareness so that everyone should take a role in resolving “water crisis”. To achieve this participation, socio- cultural capacity building is a basic necessity and accordingly, a national plan for students to promote water education has been defined in Iran..

National Students Plan for Saving Water (DANAB) has been defined base on social studies. Relying on the support of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and in consistent with the need for social participation, DANAB at 2010 was started firstly in Khorasan Razavi province on northeast of Iran by Energy Ministry of Iran-Water Resources Management Co.. After a successful pilot phase at 2011 in six provinces, DANAB was defined and implemented nationally with coordination and headquarter integration.

Studies, planning and monitoring of this project has been followed by Abangah (as the national consultant).

DANAB project had valuable qualitative and quantitative results among which the following can be pointed out:

-Providing 930,000 local materials:

  •  90,000 educational Poster – notification
  • 40,000 educational booklet for teachers
  • 110,000 CDs
  •  690,000 manuals for water saviors, teachers and students
  • 96,000,000 minutes of education for students and teachers in the entire country

-Create 92,000 production by students in the various competitions in 10 fields, including art, science and literature throughout the provinces

-Interaction and dynamic communication with the Ministry of Education

-Interaction with UNESCO to strengthen the project and introduce it worldwide

-promoting the awareness and sensitivity through the defined parameters in the audience (yielded an average of 6.3 percent totally)
